Pageant/Historic Parade of the Floralies 2008 (Historische Praalstoet Floraliën) Ghent (Gent), Belgium
For the first time ever, the city of Ghent (Gent), Belgium, organized a pageant (historic parade), celebrating in a grand manner the 200th anniversary of the five-yearly Floralies. The Floralies is a huge plant and flowers exhibition in which ornamental growers from all over the world exhibit their most ornate flowers and plants in a vast indoor garden set up in Flanders Expo in Ghent, Belgium. It's the largest indoor garden in the world comprising 4.5 ha. Click here to take a look at my gallery of the 2010 Edition of the Ghent Floralies. In this historic parade, the history of Ghent was shown in 35 scenes. 250 horse riders, 1,200 figures and 21 floats provided the spectacle that was attended by 100,000 - 125,000 spectators (among them King Albert II and Queen Paola of Belgium). Though it was a very well-done spectacle, it could not compete with the magnitude and grandeur of the Pageant of the Golden Tree in Bruges.
