Though it was a totally overcast day, the 6th edition of the Defense Days (defensiedagen) in Koksijde, Belgium, were a HUGE success. Reportedly, 145,000 visitors were witness of the way the Belgian Army is transforming. The mission of the Army is restoring peace and the many foreign missions to promote peace are just part of it. The Ministery of Defence and the Military Staff decided that all tracked vehicles must disappear before 2015 and the Belgian Army must be more flexible and smaller. Only highly flexible and mobile units should be the result of the reorganisation. Also, the material should be of high quality. Currently, the BEST-program (Belgian Soldier Transformation) reviews the equipment and uniform of the individual soldiers. Arrival of the Sea King helicopter with paratroopers on board. The paratroopers get out of the helicopter and will storm the woorden hut in which two soldiers are taken hostage. The paratroopers are trained in Military Hostage Rescue (MHR) to free people in foreign countries. They are not authorized to do this on national ground because that's the exclusive competence of the federal police.
