The Ommegang is an annual pageant in Brussels, capital of Belgium, celebrating the glorious and majestic procession on June 2, 1549 of Charles V (Quint) (Keizer Karel V) in Brussels. The pageant takes place on the first Thursday of July and the preceding Tuesday. The pageant is accompanied by many medieval events (like combating knights in authentic plate armor), most of which take place in the medieval village situated at the Place du Grand Sablon (Grote Zavel). The pageant ends at the Grand Place on which takes place a very colorful traditional/medieval show starting around dusk.
